“Listen with curiosity and the world offers a guided journey. There is no life without story.”
A story, told truly, collapses the distance between any two lives. It is a language that can cross every border, including time. I am drawn to writers who understood that the personal and the political are inseparable: Studs Terkel, who let ordinary people speak in their full complexity; Audre Lorde, Walt Whitman and Khalil Gibran, who found the cosmic in the vernacular; Margaret Atwood and Emily St. John Mandel who show us that time is porous. I write to travel deeper and to pay attention — to the smallest details, what gets left out of the official version, to what persists anyway. I write to understand and challenge what I feel and what I think. And at times, to escape it.
